I am well aware of the importance of the

However, do not check your phone every second or minute. The individual who is talking at that moment will feel insulted and will think that you are bored with what he or she is saying. You can also prevent this from happening by telling the group beforehand that you are waiting for a very important call or text message. Emphasize that it is a life and death situation and you really have to take that call or message.
